An Invitation to the Road Less Traveled

I’m counting the weeks till the start of Professional Trailblazing—my virtual training for therapists, coaches and any clinicians treating adults with ADHD. Naturally, I’m excited. Just as naturally, I’m feeling just a touch of the imposter syndrome. I mean—what’s so special about my thirty-plus years of experience, my personal struggle with ADHD, my writing and thinking on the subject?

Well, it’s actually pretty simple. I owe much of my success to failure–a rather distinguished record of failure, really.  I’ve tried a lot of things and they haven’t all worked. But here I still am, loving my job more than ever, continuing to custom-tailor therapy for adults with ADHD. Therapy that, like adult ADHD itself, is flexible, sustainable and never boring!

You may have noticed the latest catchall term for my therapeutic process– “trailblazing.” That’s because it’s my job to help each client blaze their own trail through the challenges and rewards of ADHD. Plenty of pre-printed maps are available, but one size has never fit all. Anyone who’s experienced ADHD, in themselves, clients, or both, has wrestled with the linear processes that are supposed to get us organized and focused.

The only way to convert that struggle to a therapeutic adventure is through engaging our clients’ curiosity and imagination. And how is that done, exactly? I invite you into my virtual living room to talk about that very thing.

See you on the trail!
