Coaching vs. Therapy

Two different tools. Both valuable. Here's how to know which one is right for you.

If you've been exploring our site and wondering whether you need coaching or therapy — you're asking exactly the right question. The honest answer is: it depends on where you are and what you need. Sometimes the answer is one. Sometimes it's both. And we'll always help you figure out which fits best.

Here's a clear breakdown.

  • ADHD coaching is a forward-focused, goal-oriented partnership. It lives in the present and future — where are you now, where do you want to be, and what's getting in the way?

    Coaching focuses on:

    • Building skills, habits, and systems

    • Accountability and momentum

    • Practical strategies for daily life

    • Goal-setting and follow-through

    • Performance at school, work, or in life roles

Coaching does not diagnose, treat, or address mental health conditions. It is not a clinical service and is not covered by insurance.

  • Therapy is a clinically-guided process that explores the deeper emotional, psychological, and relational patterns that shape your life. It can address diagnosis, trauma, mental health conditions, and the emotional weight of living with ADHD over a lifetime.

    Therapy focuses on:

    • Mental health treatment and diagnosis

    • Processing past experiences and emotional patterns

    • The Emotional Distress Syndrome of ADHD

    • Anxiety, depression, and co-occurring conditions

    • Relationships — individual, couples, and family

Therapy is provided by licensed clinicians and may involve insurance billing or superbills.

  • Absolutely — and for many people with ADHD, the combination is powerful. Therapy does the deeper emotional work while coaching builds the practical daily structure. The two complement each other well.

Because our counseling practice and coaching practice are run by the same team, we are well-positioned to help you navigate both — and to coordinate care when it makes sense. Please note that counseling services require clients to be physically located in the state of Texas at the time of service.
