Frequently Asked Questions
Sessions & Format
-
The consultation is a brief, no-pressure Zoom call — not a therapy session. We will ask a little about what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping to work on, and you are welcome to ask us anything about our approach, fees, or how sessions work. At the end of the call, if it feels like a good fit, we will schedule your first appointment.
-
The Life Empowerment Center (TLEC) is a telehealth-only practice. All sessions are conducted via a HIPAA compliant secure video platform, which means you can attend from the comfort of your own home or any private location — no commute required.
-
You will need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer), and a private space where you feel comfortable speaking freely. We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform — you will receive a secure link before each session.
-
Because we are a telehealth practice, we can see clients located anywhere in the state of Texas. You must be physically located in Texas at the time of your session.
-
Initial intake sessions are 75-120 minutes. Ongoing individual therapy sessions are 25 or 50 minutes. Your therapist will let you know what to expect before your first appointment.
-
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which allows us to build momentum early in the therapeutic process. As you develop customized strategies, the need for sessions is generally less and we may move to biweekly or monthly sessions. Session frequency is always discussed and agreed upon together.
-
New clients are typically seen within 2–3 weeks. However, a specific appointment date will not be scheduled until the following are completed:
All new client intake paperwork has been filled out and submitted
A credit or debit card has been entered and saved in the client portal
Once both of these are in place, we will confirm your appointment date and time. Instructions for completing your paperwork and setting up your payment method will be sent to you after your consultation.

Yes. Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards are accepted. Mental health services are generally an eligible expense under both account types, but we recommend confirming with your plan administrator.
-
Yes. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, we can provide a superbill — a detailed receipt with the service and diagnosis codes your insurer requires — which you can submit directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We cannot guarantee reimbursement and recommend contacting your insurer in advance to understand your out-of-network benefits.
-
We require 48 hours notice for Monday appointments and 24 hours notice for Tuesday through Friday appointments. Cancellations with less than the required notice will be charged the full session fee. Please see our Fees & Payment page for full details.
About therapy
-
Your first session is an intake appointment — a chance for your therapist to get to know you, understand what brings you to therapy, and begin building a picture of your history and goals. You do not need to have everything figured out before you come. There are no wrong answers, and you are in control of what you share and when.
Approaches, educational directive action oriented approach to better understand your life and manage your ADHD. JUST DO IT -
ADHD is our primary specialty — we work with children, teens, and adults navigating ADHD across all areas of life, including focus and organization, emotional regulation, relationships, school, and work. We also work with many of the concerns that commonly accompany ADHD, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and family or relationship stress.
You do not need an ADHD diagnosis to work with us. We welcome clients dealing with a wide range of concerns, and our therapists bring the same level of care and expertise to every client. Please visit our Services page for more information about what we treat and who we work with.
-
It depends on the provider. James Ochoa, LPC-S works with adults ages 25 and older. Jennifer Walsh, LPC-Associate works with children, teenagers, and adults of all ages. If you are seeking services for a child or teen, we will match you with Jennifer Walsh, LPC-Associate during the consultation process.
-
An LPC-Associate is a licensed counselor in Texas who has completed their graduate degree and is actively working toward independent licensure under the clinical supervision of an LPC-Supervisor. Sessions with our LPC-Associate are supervised, which is reflected in the lower fee. The quality of care, confidentiality, and ethical standards are the same regardless of which provider you see.
-
No. As licensed counselors, we do not prescribe medication. If medication is something you are interested in exploring, we are happy to provide a referral to a psychiatrist or your primary care physician.
